Only 5 weeks until the Speyside Way.
Here's a few items you should consider packing into your rucksack.
spare socks
blister kit
paracetamol/brufen
toothbrush/tootpaste/small container shower gel
spare boxers
spare t-shirts
shorts
fleece
hat
suntan cream
waterproofs
spare trousers (dancing)
waterbottle/platypus
jelly beans(energy)
Speyside Way map
mobile phone
sandals or flipflops (dancing shoes)
ipod
Remember, everything you take you need to carry so try and keep your rucksack as light as possible. Also, keep everything in poly bags so it stays dry incase of rain. |

That is indeed correct for the amateur rambler but someone like myself who has spent many an evening watching Ray Mears and Bear Grylls only really needs his Swiss knife.I have learnt through hours of watching these brave rugged adventurers how to navigate using only the moon, stars or sun.How to collect vital liquids that may be needed to keep you alive, which can be kept in a snake skin and rapped around your neck(after being knotted at both ends of course). How to produce that wonderful thing we call fire which is comforting, warming as well as a good deterent for any wild animals we may come across-big cats, bears or big snakes. You can also make a very nice brew with pine leaves and that liquid that you have wrapped round your neck.Bear and Gryll (forgive me for name dropping)have taught me many ways to light this all important fire-flint rubbing, wood together using either your hands or a previously made bow but the most popular method is a cheeky wee lighter when the camera man is not watching.
As for sleeping I am sure that the accomadation booked will be up to the usual Jailer Tour standard,I for one have learned how to spend the night quite comfortably in the strangest places and I go into this monster treck knowing if need be I can quite safely and in relative comfort spend the night inside a dead camel.Come to think of it some of the places we have stayed in,I might have preferred the camel (dont take the hump Jailer).
So fear not the rest of you ,you can tell your loved ones that you take to this walk in the company of may I say an outdoor expert second to none.
P.S. Is anyone else taking pyjamas. |

Thanks to both "experts" for those truly useful bits of info.
I will be kitted out like a model from Black's the outdoor shop - in addition to everything jailer has listed I will also be carrying a 4 man tent and a spare 6 man tent in case the first gets ripped by one of those so called "wild cats" (or a wedding guest in Grantown).
I'm planning buying a pair of brand new boots the day before we travel up North. So that'll be good.
In answer to your question Andye - I'll be taking 2 pairs of pjs - one for each night - I can't believe that anyone would be travelling with anything less to be honest - what kind of filthy people do you think are going on this walk?
Never mind the Swiss knife - I'll be taking my Ghurka knife or kukri as I described it to the judge at my recent attempted murder trial - not proven by the way. Anyway, who's for sharing a room/tent?
Looking forward to the trip - have been out training (walking not drinking - I'm already proficient on that score) Have managed a 12 miler so far with no problem - think the main worry will be having to repeat those distances (and more) for 3 consecutive days! |

Walking Poles are a good investment for the joints Argos or Millets for around £15 a pair.
Anyone still looking for boots field & trek has Meindl boots reduced from £120 to £70. They're excellent 3 season boots and will also do for next years walk. |
