Interesting week for Scotland. Very Happy

I thought he was released a little early as he is fit enough to sign a one year deal with Dundee. Laughing

However on a political front I think the Scottish government has hit the jackpot. ok

Macaskill has managed to propel Scotland into living roooms across the world. Americans are now aware that we are not a county of England, that we have our own parliament and our national flag is the saltire and not the butchers apron.

They also realise that we cannot be bought or bullied by threats from the world super powers.

Well Done Kenny Macaskill, progress has been made ok

Mailer, are you having a laugh?
This is a catastrophe!! Terrible, terrible decision. I have never felt so embarased to be Scottish. You talk about the saltire. How shaming it was to see them being waved in Tripoli.
We have jeapordised goodness knows what with the USA. Love them, or loath them, they are extremely important to our (Scottish) economy and we have put that in jeapordy in one fail swoop.
There is no doubt in my mind, that this has come to be as a result of negotiations with Westminster. No danger we would have the bottle to make a decision like this on our own. A deal has been done between London and Tripoli for trade purposes and we've been told what to do. As a result, a convicted mass murder has been set free.
MacAskill was awful in delivering his statement and subsequent defence of his appalling decision.
There are many ways in which we can promote our country - this was not one of them.

I,m afraid I have to disagree you gaffy. Rolling Eyes

I am extremely proud to be Scottish at the moment. We have proved that we are brave enough to make an important decision despite intervention from the Americans.

Those are the same people who were delighted that IRA terrorists were released...short memories.

Whether the decision is the correct one or not is not important. America now knows that Scotland will stand and make their own decisions and not be swayed like Blair was with the Iraq war fiasco.

As for Scottish labour and the UK government, they are incapable of making any decision.

We have made huge progress in the last few days.

Mailer, I think you have taken the patriotic stance a bit too far, I have to agree with all Gaffy's comments and the quicker we get rid of all those "jumped up councillors" at Holyrood the better off we will all be.

On a positive note though, this will make the Scottish public realise that the thought of independance is just a joke. fingers

Not much Nat bashing today. Razz

Public opinion very much swaying in Macaskills favour. Support from both the head of Church of Scotland and the head of the Catholic Church in Scotland.

I'm also very impressed with Labours Malcolm Chisholm who broke ranks and backed Macaskill in the chamber today.

The oppositions threat to call for a vote of no confidence dissapeared quicker than Celtic supporters from Parkhead on a European night. Laughing with the realisation that SNP would return with an even greater majority if an election were called.

The Cat, be afraid very afraid as independEnce is a step closer now with the public now witnessing that the Scottish government has the backbone to deal with American/UK governments.

Gaffy, Idea be a man and admit you called it wrong

You will be stronger for it Laughing

I have just stumbled across this thread and as usual Gaffy and Cat are talkin out the whole in their ar*e!

I have met Kenny "wrap it right around ya Barrack" MacKaskill during a recent visit to my place of work.
We discussed many things including supporting Scotland and getting foo abroad which he is totally up for!
I think some people should be careful what they wish for! as long as King Kenny is in place the SPS will continue to be run and built by the government. If Cathy and the numptys come back we'll be back where we were, privatisation, even less staff, poorer wages.

We are showing a compassion that shows us in a very favourable light and is likley to knock about 20p of a gallon of petrol in Scotland!!

A compassion unlikely to be afforded the poor simple laddie who hacked int the pentagon computer system looking for aliens and which could result in him ending up in jail in america for 125 years!!!
Obviously not in guantanemo bay jail cos he's not a hamilton.

Of course as a couple of Daily Mail readers Gaff and Cat will recognise that story as that paper is running a campaign against extradition!

On ye go Kenny! Where can I buy on those T shirts?

If it wasn't for the fact I was looking for the bus time on Sat I would never have stumbled across this debate. I havent a clue how long it is since I was last here, but no much has changed eh! Smile Out of all the guff the two resident unionists apologists posted, Gaffy's one line has got to be the best by a looooooooooong long way yet!

"No danger would we have the bottle to make a decision like this. "

First laugh I cracked all day... altho to be fair it is a Monday.

Have been quiet for a few days, as Steve Wilson & Co. cut through my cables. Ouchy. Now sorted.
Why should my objection to Mr. Ali etc... being released after 8 years for killing 270 people be seen by some as comment upon my nationalist or otherwise political views. Answer? It is not. I am neither a Unionist or a Daily Mail reader thank you very much.
I believe the decision was wrong and I believe that London and/or Edinburgh have done a deal with Libya and that is what REALLY is at the centre of his release.
Now feel free to take it back to T-shirts, yank bashing etc if you so desire.

Your view as to the rights and wrongs of his release do not concern me in the slightest Gaffy, nor do I think any particular stance is reflective of a nationalist or unionist position.

Your comment that this was way too big a decision for a Scottish minister to take however, is absolutely reflective of your view/fear of independence, in that for some unfathomable reason you seem to think we are not capable of taking decisions without the help/ say so of Wesrtminster politicians.

I dont know about you, but as far as I know we are having this debate here, and thousands of Scots are debating the subject daily, at home and at work. Each and every one of us will have taken a view as to the right thing to do, (you have done that yourself) and I'm pretty sure we all managed to do that without contacting Gordon Brown, Jack Straw, or even Peter Mandleson to see if it was ok to come to that decision.
