I am a little taken aback by the current furore surrounding the proposal of a GB football team in the forthcoming (if 4 years away qualifies as forthcoming), London Olympics. There are a lot of things about this 'meet' that I'm not happy about - the eventual cost - on a personal and national basis. We will be paying for this for years and Scotland, as a nation, will receive very little benefit, for an awful lot of financial input. I would like to attend various events, but I'm sure tickets will be like hen's teeth. Ingin, ensure Royalties are on the case. That said, can they currently afford to buy anything? Ooooh, contraversial. Right, where am I going with this?
Ah, yes....Team GB? Bring it on. I'm as much of a Nationalist as the next person (except the Fairlies and anybody else who knows more about politics than me). However, on the basis that FIFA do then not interfere with our current autonomy, there should be no reason for us not to agree to a team GB. Okay, most of the players will be English. So what? It would be WRONG for football not to be represented at our 'home' Olympics. There cannot be a Scottish team, so what do you do? I like Mr. Salmond, but sometimes he gets it wrong. "Blah, blah, blah, and I'll send Mr. Brown homewards to think again". So wrong.
Me? I'm all for it.
Is anybody still reading this? |

Gaffy, I can't believe you wrote that crap
If Team GB enters a football team in the 2012 Olympics it will spell the end of the national team. Sepp Blatter changes his mind every two minutes and he will not be in charge in 2012 so his comments won't matter anyway.
The other member countries especially the african nations have been pushing for one team from the UK and this is a serious threat.
Although a couple of members of JT would gladly cheer on a UK team I would rather go and lay in my pish.
Team Scotland for 2012 in London. |

| In my humble opinion, it must be fairly straight forward for those involved to say, right, the Olympics are unique and a one off (every four years) event. So we'll agree to one team for a couple of weeks and then everything can go back to what it was. It really cannot be that difficult and it has actually happened before. |

I can't believe you would gamble the future of our national team on a 3rd rate u -23 tournament
The other worrying aspect is would you want the team to win |

Thank god you finished with that bit... now the rest of the pish you typed at least can be explained as to how you came up with it!
"home" olympics?? just because we are paying through the nose for the thing doesnt mean its our home olympics. 10 englishmen and a random welsh/scot/ ulsterman thrown in would be roundly boo'd by most if not all scottish football fans in any other circumstance. They still would be by me in this circumstance.
The threat to the national status of our football team isnt some mad notion dreamt up by rabid nationalists ( like the Fairlies)! The national football associations are dead against it for the very same reason that jailer talks about, we would be nuts to think that allowing it this once does not undermine the teams status in the future.
You realise of course, after loads of pestering form mailer ive still never got round to putting a post in the forum, until now! well done gaffy |

Well done Delbert. Sometimes it just requires the right kind of carrot.
You had better watch out young man - your 'tag' may be under threat! After 11 long months, my extension is not yet finished and I cannot move back in. Surely I too am worthy of the name Petrocelli?
Back to the game - it is played tomorrow - who from Scotland makes the starting 11? |
