SAINTS GET SECOND VISIT FROM 'THE DOC'

Saints have this afternoon secured the return to McDiarmid Park of striker Kenny Deuchar on a one year deal.

The 6’ 3” striker was a big success during his previous spell with Saints in the first half of 2007/2008, netting ten times and forming an impressive partnership with Andy Jackson – one of those goals helped secure the Challenge Cup Final win over Dunfermline Athletic at Dens Park.

The chance to try soccer in the States proved to be too much of a lure for the 28 year old and he enjoyed his stint with Real Salt Lake before returning to Scotland last season for a spell with Hamilton but the New Douglas Park’s tactical set up limited his impact for the SPL side. The qualified doctor had previous SPL experience with Gretna.

Speaking to the Saints Official Website in the final days of his family holiday in Florida, manager Derek McInnes said “I’m delighted to get Kenny back. He made a huge impression at the club first time round and hopefully he will do so again. He knows the club and the players well and that is a plus for us. We have kept in touch since his first spell here and we tried to get him before.

“We wanted him back after his spell in the States but he wanted to test himself in the SPL. It didn’t work out as well as he’d have liked at Accies, for whatever reason. But he has the hunger to succeed in the SPL. We have got a player who has something to prove and there’s a few of us in the same boat.

“We have players who were deemed not good enough at previous clubs or who are making their way in the game. We have all got a point to prove next season and Kenny is no different.

“He showed our fans before that he’s a creator and a scorer. I like the option of a big man giving us presence up top. We have pace and movement from other strikers. But Kenny isn’t just a foil for others.

“It’s important to have this type of player around the club, especially with Derek Holmes moving on.”
