Plans are almost finalised for the ultimate JT challenge. Plans are almost complete to give Jailer Tours members the opportunity to climb the highest mountain at over 4000m in North Africa, Mount Toubkal in Morroco.
Departing Sep 17 Edinburgh to Marrakech(via London)
Night in hotel in Marrakech
Sep 18 Transfer to Imil and walk 4/5 hrs to Mount Toubkal Hut for overnight stay.
Sep 19 Early rise for climb to summit. Return to Imil and transfer to Marakesh for final night in hotel.
Sep 20 Flight home.
We have four confirmed so far including McBeefy and myself.
Don't miss out on a JT once in a lifetime opportunity. |

Approx costs.
Flights £200
Hotels £50
Transfers & Guide £100
The walk is within the capabilities of all reasonably fit JT members and is fully guided. Approximately 8/9hrs walking over two days to the top and a quick decent back to the Imil. There is no need for any specialist walking equipment although due to the high altitude the pace to the top is obviously very slow.
The link in the inital post gives more detailed info. |

I'll no manage to make it to this event
However I fully intend to show my support by going on a pub crawl.
starting at the coonty and ending at the Royale via wotherspoons, two thomases, kirky, patricks( no just for gays ) half a six karoke bar and the windsor.
no specailised equiptment will be required as this will be supplied in each pub.
Because we'll be spending at least an hour in each the pace at the Royale might have slowed right up.
Only truly hardy souls deluded about their age and fitness will probably head to the Loft summit!
append your name to the list! |

I'm with you Vim, I feel we may have to have a few practice sessions prior to our attempt to reach our ultimate test, the Loft, it won't be easy but if we stick together we will succeed. |

I predict there's more chance of JT punters climbing Mount Toubkal than lasting this hazardous test. |

Sorry Jailer - I'd like to cut my post and paste it to just after Vim's alternative proposal! Particularly liking the "half a six karaoke bar" spur to the walk! |

Jailer, I would just like to clarify with yourself that it was Roca Blu (Patricks) where I met my good lady!
Any further false accusations will result in legal action |

A copy of the email received from the company we are using for the trek.
Thank you for your email. I am able to arrange this trek for you. This is what the itinerary will look like:
Day 1:Collected from hotel Tuesday 18th September at 08:00. After a transfer to the little village of Imlil we begin our trek. Heading along the Mizane Valley, we first pass the village of Aremd and then onto the shrine of Sidi Chamarouch. We then continue east and by crossing the flood plains our route takes us along mule tracks and up into the high rocky cliffs above the valley. Crossing the river we eventually come to the pastoral shrine of Sidi Chamarouch, which attracts tourists and pilgrims. From here the trail continues to climb steadily, snaking and zigzagging its way up to the snowline and the Toukbal Refuge (3206m), our stop for the night.
Day 2: Early in the morning we make our attempt on the summit of Jebel Toukbal, the highest peak in Northern Africa. Our route takes us up the south cirque, crossing the stream above the refuge. The walking is relatively straightforward, but the scree and the altitude will make the going quite difficult in parts. The views along the way make the journey more than worthwhile. When you reach the the summit you will see that the vistas across the surrounding landscape are quite breathtaking. From here there are unrestricted views in every direction, from the Marrakesh Plain to the High Atlas in the north and as far south as the Anti-Atlas and the Sahara. We will retrace our steps when we return down the mountain and head back towards Imlil. You will be back to Marrakech at 18:00.
For 6 person the price of this trek will be 100 euros per person for the whole trek.
Included in this price: transport from Marrakech and back to Marrakech, accommodation, meals, mule, cook and guide.
What's not included: sleeping bags, soft drinks (mineral water, fanta, etc) and tip.
We'll be booking flights etc at the weekend if there's anyone still thinking about this fantastic opportunity. |

transcripts of the conversations I've had with the companies I'll be using for the alternative trip;
ACE vehicular hire incorporated -
"aye, ace taxis?"
"Eh, we dinnae dae bookings that far in advance; ye'll need to phone nearer the time; eh? aye we're open aw day. eh? nah you cannae get a discount. Just phone nearer the time. I dinnae ken if it'll be the taxi with the loft written on the side. Eh? och hud on, look a'll gie ye a number for taylors."
Wee weedgie weird religious cult knighthood Stagecoach bus company-
"yes every seven minutes between Scone and towncentre. yes it goes via western edge; No I cant guarentee folk from Letham wont get on it. Round by Tulloch, come on Sir, I've got a knighthood, we cant be seen travelling through tulloch. Glencarse and Spam valley Madoes? No thats the mickey moose bus company who cover that area. you'll need to arrange outside the tatties holidays tho, cos his bus is usually used for that and transporting livestock. no I cant guarentee that Spencer the painter will be driving the bus that day. can I interest you in a copy of the watchtower?"
equipment for the day will include, money and a plastic bank card! |
